Ginsberg’s Inkling: Ummm

May 6, 2010

NEF125: Almost four years after the release of The Halfpenny Marvel LP, Ginsberg’s Inkling (John Creary) returns with this brilliant dark artrap sophomore album, Ummm. Entirely self produced, Ummm is another sample heavy production, showing impressive progression in craftsmanship. The scope is broad and unpredictable like a spontaneous pub crawl. Dope scratching and turntablism lurks in abundance, courtesy of DJ Braille and DJ Xaolin, respectively. Guest appearances by Neferiu’s own: Planit and Piper Davis only thicken the illness.

Ummm is about that awkward pause between thoughts and conversation. It’s about making love in an elevator with a stranger. It’s about finding the heart beat beneath all great centre of things. It’s about munching nothingness. It’s about breathing in some kind of fond bohemia.

Neferiu Records and Pretentious Music proudly present: Ginsberg’s Inkling – Ummm.

“Brainy white boy hip-hop from Calgary (!). Nothing about steers, queers, or beers, but lots to ponder in mainman John Creary’s idea-fuelled lyrics and postgrad production.”
- The Georgia Straight

“Hopefully Buck 65′s rumoured return to hip-hop will sound just as good as Ginsberg’s impressive
debut.”
- Exclaim!

“Ginsberg’s Inkling has forged its own path of sensual lyrics and rap-ego…like an interesting day away from reality”
- What’s up Yukon!
